Welcome to the site of

the Jocelyn

a beautiful Sailing Vessel

I started building S/V Jocelyn in Caspar, California, in 1974, and launched her in 1984 in the Noyo River in Fort Bragg, California. The hull armature took five (5) years to complete.  The hull Lay Up is six (6) layers of 1/2" square welded mesh, supported by 1/4" spring steel horizontally and 1/8" spring steel vertically.  All of this is on tied 2" centers.  The thickness is 7/8". The deck and bulkhead lay-ups are thinner. Type 5 cement with Port Costa lightweight aggregate was used with a cement boss (Masonry Contractor) to supervise. We utilized the New Zealand 2-Stage Plastering method so there would be no air voids in the hull. Prior to working on my boat, Gil Roden - the Cement Boss - successfully built a 48' ferro-cement schooner: "Bobolink," and sailed to New Zealand and back with his family. I have a building survey plus a boat survey available. It took the next five(5) years to finish the interior, engine and rigging. Wood workers from the James Krenov Fine Wood Working school in Fort Bragg California helped make the trim above and below decks. The boat fished salmon for 4 years off the California Coast until 1988, when I began using her as a cruising yacht.  Jocelyn has sailed to the San Francisco Bay  and back 3 times.  In 1992 we sailed down to Chula Vista California, near the Mexican border. After that trip we made many improvements: we built a bigger wheel house (hard dodger),with Mahogany Dutch Doors (by MendocinoDoors), which are removable. In addition, I put in a new 3 cylinder 390C "Hardy" Chinese Diesel engine and two more stainless steel fuel tanks,  each with 15 gallons capacity.  We also put in an insulated tongue and groove ceiling forward and aft.
This boat is simple and heavy duty. If you think this might be the boat for you, give me a call.
